In early autumn 2025, my brother and I cycled from Birmingham to Aberystwyth over three days, following National Cycle Route 81 and Lôn Cambria. At 165 miles, the route carried us steadily west from the Midlands’ canals through quiet border country and deep into the Welsh mountains. Cold starts, long climbs, and striking scenery defined the days, with the reward of reaching the coast by bike making every effort feel worthwhile.
